“Goodbye, summer. Goodbye long days and lazy mornings. Goodbye sunscreen applications and conversations over afternoon activities. Goodbye pool. Goodbye beach. Goodbye bare feet and dirty toes. Goodbye arguments over bedtime and “one more treat” debates. Hello time. Hello structure. Hello shoes and socks and matching outfits. Hello to another year that reminds us we are not in charge. That the sun and the moon age our children whether we like it or not. So we live in the moment. We love it. We take a picture of it..and then? And then we are forced to just say goodbye.”
Sigh, all the feels this morning after dropping my 1st grader and Pre-K’er off at school. I swear they both did great at drop-off despite what this picture might imply. 🙂 Change is hard for everyone, right?
This month we were sent the cutest little care package for kids. It hails from a company founded by a mom-psycologist called Kidolences. She fills personalized boxes with selected keepsakes and goodies to help kids cope with change. Paigely got the “Suddenly Sibling” box and is still enjoying the contents. She keeps the box right on her nightstand. There are many themes to choose from like “Bereavement” “Moving Away” “Divorce” “Loss of Pet” and my personal favorite “Bye Bye Binkie.” That’s a mandala she colored in the picture and a nightlight for her room. It also contained things like her own diaper kit to help with the baby and a helper apron she got to decorate herself.
That picture reminds me…I finally ordered a canvas print from our newborn shoot. I always use Canvas Factory they are my go-to because it’s quick, easy, and cheap! Right now they are having a 65% special off the entire website. If I had my shit together I’d get the first day of school pictures done for the hallway. Oh, wait. Well, maybe you have a good one. Canvas Factory is giving away a single canvas print to one lucky winner, simply comment under this post on Facebook with the words “Canvas Print.”
Do you ever sit and think, what will the next Beanie Baby/Shopkin/Fidget Spinner craze be? I do. Because I want to be sitting on a beach in Fiji somewhere staring at my yacht I just named “SUCKER.” Fidget spinners are still going strong in this house. We found a book called “Fun With Fidget Spinning” and you kind of need this book if you’ve got a fidget-crazed kid at home. Speaking of books…do you know someone who is pregnant? OMG they need “The Pickles and Ice Cream” pregnancy cooking book. It’s so funny, you guys.
My favorite combinations are Chips with Sour Gummy Worms and The Bacon and Mars Bar Burger *What!?* The photography in the book is gorgeous and they throw some funny ones in their too like: “Toothpaste with Oreos. Twist the Oreos to separate. Put a generous layer of toothpaste on top of the filling then place the Oreos back together. Serves: 0. There is a reason you are supposed to spit toothpaste out.” Want one? Simply comment under this post on my Facebook page with “Pickles & Ice Cream” for a chance to win a copy (2 winners total.) Oh, and if you have a daughter consider reading this book to her at night Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls I highly recommend it. We’ve been learning so much and I really love the messaging.
We just got back from Mexico (more on that later of course) and while down there I got a chance to use my new AquaVault floating phone case and portable safe. Both came in handy as I think we spent 90% of the vacation in water. Want a floating phone case? It’s more fun than you think taking pictures underwater. Just comment “Floating Phone Case” under this post on my FB page.
We had two features this month – 1 radio and 1 TV. I loved, loved, looooved chatting with Jane Wilkens Michael on her iHeartradio show: “Better Than Before.” My segment was called “Mom’s The Word” and you can listen to it, here. (While you’re at it, check out the book she wrote Long Live You. She talks about making positive health decisions, improving your emotional well-being, establish a support system, and finding your creativity – all things we could use, right?)
NECN featured our family on Does It Work? again with Leslie Gaydos and this time with the Lava Lunch pack. Spoiler alert – it worked. We were in Mexico when it aired but got to see it online, and you can to, here. (Riggs has a 2 second cameo see if you can catch it.) And speaking of Riggs, he’s been enjoying his new Safety 1st teethers featuring Mombella – they are adorable and saved us on the airplane, check them out on Amazon! I’m giving away 2 Octopus teethers just simply write “Octopus” under this post on FB.
You can write in for any and all giveaways, we don’t limit here. 🙂 If you were wanting a chance at all of them it would look something like this: Canvas Print Pickles & Ice Cream Floating Phone Case Octopus in the comment section. Bonus points if you can make a sentence out of it. (Just kidding, no bonus points, just my thumbs up.) Good luck!
