1 WEEK INTO KINDERGARTEN: ALEXA, STOP.

0 Permalink

Decker went off to Kindergarten last week. My 2nd baby, in public school. (Don’t worry, I’m not even going to say it.) Alexa play “I don’t want to miss a thing” by Aerosmith please. I watched the parents on that first day, wiping their eyes and clutching their hearts. A lot of sunglasses on a cloudy day. The kids though, they wore big confident smiles; giddy with anticipation. It meant we did our job, but it didn’t mean it was less sad to see them go. It’s because we know that once they enter into those grade school doors they step up onto a time rocket that doesn’t slow down.

He came out of his line for one more hug. A lump lodged itself securely in my throat. He leaned over and whispered softly into my ear: “Don’t worry Mommy, you don’t have to worry about me.” The lump exploded. “I know I don’t. You will be just fine, won’t you?” I say with a shaky voice, holding his shoulders. He nods back with his signature dimple lined grin. But yes I do baby, worrying about you is just part of the job…

“Then I kiss your eyes, and thank God we’re togetherrrrrr. I just wanna stay with you in this moment foreverrrr.” ALEXA, STOP.
