FROM PRESCHOOL TO KINDERGARTEN…SIGH…

My first born is headed to Kindergarten this Fall.  She’s been preparing for this day ever since she was 6 months old when we dropped her off at her first daycare.  We called it “school” before she knew what school even meant to get her used to the idea.  She moved 3 times in 3 years and each time adapted to a new environment.   She learned how to do big things like recognize sight words and little things like put on her own coat and play Jenga.

This child is more than ready for Kindergarten…

My first born is headed to Kindergarten this Fall.  I’ve been preparing for this day every since she was 6 months old when we dropped her off at her first daycare.  I bawled in the car and hid in the bathroom at work, stifling sobs.  We moved 3 times in 3 years and every time my heart begged my brain not to make the rational choice; just keep her home.  I fake smiled and kissed her goodbye at drop-off; it was the worst part of my day…I couldn’t wait to leave the real world and feel her little arms around my neck at pick-up.  Even now in Pre-School I remind myself that she’s still little.  She still needs me to walk her into school.  She still needs me to kneel down and plant a wet kiss on her lips.  She still needs me tell her that I’ll be back to get her after nap.  She still needs me to take her lunch out of her backpack and put it on the shelf.  Because the shelf is so high…and she’s still little.  Right? Please, say I’m right.

I am so not ready for Kindergarten…
