GIVE A LITTLE, GET A LITTLE

0 Permalink

My Mom and Dad watched the kids last Saturday while I took Hubby out for his birthday.  When I got home all of the laundry that saturated the floor of our bedroom was folded and put into perfectly neat separated piles. My Mom did it while watching the Brazilian soccer game on TV and in doing so gave me half my Sunday back. She has always been a giver, as long as I can remember.  She loves Christmas and Birthdays and putting pillow treats in our beds.  The apple didn’t fall far.  I love giving.  I love watching someone open a gift I picked out for them.  I love doing little things that make people’s lives easier.  I believe most of us inherently feel good when giving back to others.  I see this even in my kids.  The other day Decker stubbed his toe and it was bleeding.  Without us even knowing Paigely ran upstairs to her room, grabbed her precious stuffed giraffe and gave it to him to feel better.  Both Decker and I were a little shocked since that animal is usually on lockdown for her hands only.  He took it under his arm and put his cheek down on the soft belly.  As I watched Paigely beam up at me, it occurred to me that it was done out of pure human nature; there was no self-serving motive here.  Before Daddy goes to work every morning, Decker makes sure he has a toy in his bag to play “with his friends.”  He runs to the playroom, grabs a small toy, and puts it in his backpack.  It’s such a pure and simple form of giving, I’m not sure it can even be taught.  It just feels good to give.  Giving is like what my kids call a “Double Whammy.”  There’s two prizes there – you give but you also get.

If you had the chance to give a care package to someone right now, who would it be? (Mine would be a “Thank You” box to my Mom for folding 200 articles of clothing and salvaging my weekend.) CVS Pharmacy is giving you the chance at your own “Double Whammy” with their new #FindYourHealthy campaign.
