One week and counting. Back to school. Back to pick up and drop off’s. Back to
always being late scheduling. Back to communal life where kids are surrounded by friends, teachers, aides, buses, lunchrooms, computers….and so, many, germs. How do you keep your kid’s healthy during this time? I’m big on boosting immune systems in the Fall and Winter. Through research and experience I’ve learned three things are key in this endeavor: 1) Excercise (not an issue with my crazy active kids) 2) Sleep (not an issue as long as they are getting enough of #1 and 3) Vitamin C and Probotics. (Oh, hello Sale.)
Now there’s another key element that’s such a no-brainer to me it’s not even going to make my list and that’s keeping up to date with vaccines. Vaccination coverage is available under most health insurance plans. CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic alone accept more than 5,000 health plans for vaccinations.
What else comes with Back To School? Ah, Back-To-Activities and constant carpooling, am I right? We’ve got gymnastics, dance, soccer, horseback lessons, and baseball to name a few. Did you know you can get your child’s physical completed at your local MinuteClinic? In a rush? You can even reserve your place in line for an appointment using the app, and get a summary of the visit to your child’s primary care provider!
Back-To-School means packing lunches again. Remember the good ole days when we were sent to school with PB&J on Wonder White? I want for a well visit for Rigg’s 4 month appointment recently and learned that the new thing on peanut butter is exposure. At Paigely’s 4 month appointment 6 years ago it was all about keeping it away. Well, what the hell? No wonder it’s hard to parent in 2017! Our kid’s snacks are scrutinized by the school nurse and you feel like a real doo-doo head if it’s sent back in a plastic bag. This year, CVS Pharmacy is dedicating a display in-stores to a variety of allergen-friendly food products from brands like Enjoy Life, KIND, Skinnypop and more – so it’s easier to find choices that won’t get you in trouble!
Oh, and let’s not forget communal education (circle time!) can also mean the dreaded L-I-C-E. Check out this nifty little Lice Tracker I was sent (or don’t.) Did you know it’s a (newish) rule around here that kid’s are not sent home for lice because they are not technically sick? I make sure to stock up on FairyTales Lice-Away spray at CVS every September!
I’m looking forward to seeing all of those 1st day of school pictures on my social media pages. They remind me of simpler time when we could eat whatever we wanted, would never question a shot, and got sent home for bugs crawling around in our hair. Sigh. Make sure to take a visit to the CVS photo lab for same-day pick-up!
For Back To School needs, CVS has got you covered. Now excuse me while I go scratch my head…
