It’s January and the temperature in New England is cold enough to live like Ethan Frome. (Two points for Advanced HS English reference, right?) I don’t mind a 26 degree day because I was born and raised in the NorthEast and don’t know any different but I’m all set with like a SEVEN degree day. It’s not Alaska. When it gets that cold it’s not much fun to be outside with the kids…just getting them in and out of the car is a hassle. You aren’t supposed to keep them in those bulky winter coats in a carseat, it’s not safe – but what a pain to get them in and out. I usually just make them freeze running from place to car so I don’t have to deal with the taking on and off. I’ll deal with the judging eyes over the hassle. But now I don’t have to – I finally found something that solves the problem. A crash-tested, guilt-free, struggle-free “Buckle Me Baby Coat.” Read about the inventor’s story (a New Hampshire Mother of 3), here.
I’m so excited the founder is letting me give one of these away. If you want a chance to win head over to my Facebook page under this post and write “The Winter Carseat Struggle is Real.” (Other people who don’t read this post won’t know what we’re talking about and I kinda like that.)
You know what else is a challenge in freezing weather? Keeping your skin hydrated. Screw hydrated I’ll just take non-flaky please. Sometimes I park myself in front of the kids’ Safety 1st humidifiers to get some relief. We use a humidifier every night in the Winter – every kid including us has one in their room!) My sister-in-law gave me Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream for Christmas and I am 100% hooked. This miracle lotion is actually not for your Bum Bum (but no judgement if you use it there), it makes your legs look and feel not only hydrated but even a little more toned I swear AND it helps with the dinosaur elbow problem, too. Oh and it smells so delicious. I wear it in lieu of the showers I don’t take and if it weren’t for my 4th trimester greasy baby hair sprouting out under my hat I don’t think anyone could tell the difference.
The One marvelous thing about Winter in New England, for us, is skiing. I’m resending my tips for skiing with kids, here for you. Don’t be intimated to start! It’s such a great activity to do with them in cold temperatures PLUS it makes for super fun getaways. It feels so good to be able to ski not pregnant – although I felt totally balanced and in control last year, it probably wasn’t the smartest thing I did. That reminds me! You know how you can’t sleep on your stomach when you’re pregnant and that totally blows? Well I found this product 9 months too late – it’s called The Cozy Bump. Look at this little miracle. It’s like a pregnancy kayak for your bed, hah! And since I don’t need it anymore – you can have mine (unused, promise.) Go to this post on Facebook and write “I need a hole for my tummy” That should really get non-readers questioning (insert evil laugh.) Feel free to enter for a friend if you aren’t pregnant currently. I wish I could give these out to all my prego stomach sleepers out there. Click on the picture for more info:
Alright so, even though I get a lot of companies sending me kids apps. and electronic handheld stuff I don’t typically like to write about them because none of them strike me as being unique or interesting. For Christmas the kids got a device called KiddieBuzz from Santa (because I would never have bought them something like that.) The games portion of it is just okay BUT there is an icon called KiddiConnect and my 6 year old gets to text with my Mom. It’s actually really cool to watch and it’s helped improve her spelling. She sends her Grandmother pictures and has cute little “conversations” with her. Needless to say my Mom is in her glory over it. She loves being able to have this connection with her since she lives in Florida. PS: It’s VERY well monitored and I don’t let her on it for long; I can see everything and had to approve my Mom using close to 6 different verification levels. Check it out, here.
Well that’s all she wrote (literally) for January, MIM’ers. We’ll be here enjoying our backyard skating rink, (yes I just said that – I married a hockey player there was no say in the matter) and our hot chocolate on repeat. I’ll leave you with an actual live picture of me waiting for my kids to put on their snow pants.
Bonus “Thing”: They came out with Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls 2 and we are loving it!
