This week Miss P. went to camp at a local farm to learn how to feed animals, plant seeds, and dig in the dirt. She came back filthy and I loved it because I knew she was active the entire morning. I always know when my kids get their fill of physical activity with their flushed cheeks, scraped knees, and 11 hours of straight sleep. The natural state of a child is to be active. (I’m sure most of you know this first-hand!) It’s important for kids to be active. Not only does it encourage a healthy lifestyle and self esteem, it also boosts brain power.*
Here are some of our favorite activities we do together in order to encourage a love of movement:
Checking the mail on bikes.
(No seriously, this is work. Look at our driveway!)
Monkeying Around on a Swing Set & Playground
And, (in the case of rain) finding an awesome indoor playspace:
Recently I had the opportunity to partner with Procter & Gamble in helping to promote their LeapFrog LeapBand Activity Tracker Back To School Offer (The bands are pictured on both girl’s wrists in the dance party and playground pictures.) The LeapBand is the only kid’s activity tracker that encourages active play and healthy habits with a customizable pet pal. My niece and Miss P. had a blast “competing” for points:
