Do you like oysters? Keep reading.
The first oyster I ever had was with my husband on Martha’s Vineyard. I hated the texture, I loved the taste. 10 years later and now I enjoy even the texture of the oyster – it’s all part of the experience. Raw oysters are regarded as a delicacy and I really missed eating them when I was pregnant. I made up for lost time on my Real Oyster Cult float experience last weekend. Real Oyster Cult is located in Duxbury, MA. and their main gig is delivering farm fresh oysters from across North America overnight to your door. They partner with over 70 farms to deliver the freshest, most in-season experience. Oysters come to their Boston shop located in Southie and from there they are shipped in insulated boxes outfitted with a cold pack and temp sensor so your oysters arrive as cool and fresh as possible. I met Rob, the owner, at a charity event in Charlestown, MA. When I saw they had a “float” with essentially unlimited oyster eating and “learn to shuck” instructions I immediately connected with Rob’s wife, Sims to hop aboard.
We had so much fun! The Real Oyster Cult float is the perfect Saturday or Sunday afternoon “happy hour’ to host with friends. Just pack a cooler (they’ll provide a delicious platter of antipasto from D’ Orazio’s in Duxbury and as many of the freshest oysters you can eat) and meet Rob at the Harbormaster Dock in Duxbury. He’ll take you out to the float where he will talk as little or as much as you want (we loved learning from him) about his own oysters – harvested underneath you – and anything else you want to know about the oyster business.
The cost is $1000 for 12 people for 2 hours (so less than a $100 per person!) and you’ll go home with your own shucking knife. Don’t be shellfish, grab a bunch of friends and contact Rob + Sims to book your Real Oyster Cult Float this summer! But be warned, they shuck on the first date.
