I was at a friend’s house the other day (fun fact: she lives next to Steve Carrell’s summer house. I adore him. I’ve never met him. I plan on inviting myself over multiple times until I change that this Summer.) She has 4 kids ranging in age from 8-13. She’s not busy at all. I noticed after my 4th sip of wine that every kid had a device attached to them. I flash forwarded in my mind and realized this day was coming for us soon, too. And with Summer upon us, it’s easy to let the tv-watching or the pad-using get way out of control. How can we manage it all? It can be a daunting task. Sitting down to dinner is important to me. It doesn’t have to be long, but I want my kids to sit and eat together and talk about their days. We did that as kids growing up and it’s just what I know. They rarely ask to eat in front of a device because they know the answer. But sometimes it’s hard to peel them away…
Comcast introduced the Xfinity xFi app yesterday which lets us pause ALL WIFI in the house and helps reclaim the dinner
hour 15 minutes-ish. Hmmm this may be good for husbands too. I sent the app. to my friend and her response? “Love that! A must have here.” It’s available free to current Comcast internet customers, you can sign in to Xfinity or simply download the app on your smartphone. The app. also lets you monitor activity and see who is using Wifi the most and at what time. Me thinks this will come in handy in the teenage years! Maybe we’ll have a competition on who can use it less? As long as it doesn’t interrupt my Office reruns.
