I took ballet for 7 years as a child. I loved going to those dance classes. I remember so distinctly walking up the rickety long staircase into the waiting area and signing my name, passing the dressing rooms that smelled of rosin and sweat, and finally entering the large studio filled with kids stretching and chatting. I remember this routine like it was yesterday. I used to watch the older girls dance on pointe and imagined myself doing the same one day. I was on pointe for a year before giving it up. I think it was just that a social life (boys) and a growing body (boobs) got in the way. But my love of ballet lives on…
When the Nutcracker in conjunction with Ritz Carlton Memories reached out to see if I wanted to take in a private showing of The Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker dress rehearsal with my mom and Miss P. I couldn’t respond quick enough. I was IN. (And blown away.)
The Ritz designed a custom suite with decor inspired by the Nutcracker – and didn’t leave out any detail. The Master Bedroom was full of gorgeous decor (courtesy of Be Our Guest) that connected to a magic-inspired kids room complete with Teddy Bear tuck-in service. The bath butler (yes, apparently this is a thing) even draws you a sugar plum inspired bubble bath from the ‘Land of the Sweets.’ I had no idea before coming here that the Ritz Carlton provides a lot of fun packages and programs for kids during the holiday season. (Check them all out here.) And here are a couple of my favorite moments from the Boston Ballet Nutcracker and RC Memories experience. Miss P. even watched the entire show with just a quick nap during the Arabian dance (which happens to be my favorite by the way; hello Captain Bendable.)
MISS P. IN THE CHILDREN’S SUITE AT THE RITZ CARLTON BOSTON:
NO REALLY, PLEASE DON’T BREAK THE NUTCRACKER SWEETIE.
GORGEOUS DISPLAY OF TREATS. (1 of each, please.)
DON’T GET USED TO IT, LITTLE LADY:
THIS MAN (OR WOMAN) DOES A FULL BALLET SOLO IN THIS:
(Mom and I struggled to walk up the steps wearing winter coats.)
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN AWE OF PROFESSIONAL BALLERINAS.
(Mostly because I can’t seem to grasp the discipline it takes to resist bread.)
I STILL GOT IT! (Not.)
