When I’m old and blue-haired walking around a Mall with a pimped out diamond encrusted cane and I stumble upon a woman interacting with her newborn baby I will never say “Enjoy every minute because it goes by too quickly.” I don’t find this statement helpful or joyful. I think everyone knows the time will go quickly. Hearing that actually ruins the moment you were trying to enjoy. It forces your mind to fast forward before you’re ready. I don’t think people intend for this to happen. It just seems like a sad and nostalgic statement made in total self-reflection.
I’m going to keep that thought to myself and instead say: “It makes me happy to see a Mother enjoying her beautiful, healthy baby. Raising mine was the happiest time in my life. Congratulations.”
