TALES OF A CHORE: BOTTLES, BUMPERS, & BLOW-OUTS

2 Permalink

What’s your least favorite “baby chore?”  Mine is hands-down changing a crib sheet on a crib that has a bumper.  It takes me a full 20 minutes and I’m legit exhausted after it’s done.  {My kids love(d) to snuggle up against super soft bumpers once they got past the risk of SIDS and I would often find them stroking the fabric or nestling up against it, so the bumper is a necessary “evil” in our house.}  I’m most positive the problem is that I try to do it like a true asshole and leave the bumper pieces tied-on and the mattress inside the crib.  But who has time to untie all of those pieces and lift the crib out??  Hubby suggests to me that I would save time if I did it the right way.  He also reminds me that he changes the crib sheets 99% of the time.  But whatever, 1% of the time I want to punch the crib in the face.

Hubby’s least favorite “baby chore” (was) washing bottles.  We used Dr. Brown’s with Miss P.  because my sister recommended them and once they worked for her we didn’t want to jinx it so stuck with them.  But my Gawd do those bottles have a ton of parts to wash.  It’s endless and they leave your kitchen looking like a plastic factory.  With The D. Man we use Tommee Tippee bottles and Hubby could not be more excited there are basically 2 parts to wash – top and bottom.

So now his least favorite chore is changing clothes after blow-outs and pee-thrus.  This has literally happened seven times in the last two days…but I think I figured out the problem.  Do you ever just black out and forget that your baby gets older?  Maybe it’s psychological.  Maybe I don’t want to admit he’s growing up.  Or maybe I don’t want to admit that I have an 8 month old and shouldn’t be wearing maternity clothes.  And how nice is it to say “He’s 5 months” and have people say back “Wow, you don’t look like you just had a baby.”  They kinda stop saying that around 7 or 8 months.

Either way, I realized today that the poor kid is in diapers that belong to … well let’s just say a MUCH smaller baby. Hence the messy diaper changes and hence me solving both of Hubby’s least favorite baby chores.  Come to think of it, I think I changed my very last crib sheet today!
