THE MISADVENTURE TALKS: NO MORE NURSERIES IN HOSPITALS?

9 Permalink

Have you seen this article? I’ll give you the overview, it’s about hospitals in Massachusetts moving towards doing away with Maternity Ward nurseries in an attempt to promote breastfeeding, bonding, and parenting skills.

Did you use the nursery in the Maternity Ward at night? I did.  Because those 2 hours of sleep I was able to get helped me produce more milk which helped me become more confident in breastfeeding.

Did you use the nursery in the Maternity Ward during the day? I did.  Because those 30 minutes of knowing my baby was completely safe in the hands of qualified nurses helped me sort out the massive responsibility of parenting that suddenly clouded my brain.

Do you know what helped me bond with my babies? Those same 30 minutes alone, because they turned into me yearning for them back instead of secretly wishing for a break.

Do¬†you know what helped my “parenting skills?”¬†Being allowed to ask for help, right out of the gate, watching my baby being cared for and handled by other loving humans, and realizing that it really does take a village.

Well….that’s¬†#MIMSTAKE
