I talk with a lot of women who are looking to make a career change after having kids. Personally, I found it very difficult to go back to my job after having my first child. Women go through so many changes both physically and mentally when pregnant and after giving birth. Once you become a mom you’re faced with a handful of internal struggles about how to be the best mother for your child, how to be there for your family, how to make the world a better place, how to give your children the best life experiences. It doesn’t make it any easier when you’re also sitting at a desk at a job you don’t love, staring at pictures of the people you love the most
Maybe this is why so many mothers pursue career changes in the throes of parenting young children. We want our job to work for us, for our kids, and for our families. But how do we start? How do we even begin to process a career change, a new degree, or opening up a business when there are diapers to change, lunch, breakfast and dinner to prepare, schedules to follow, and lives to be cared for…nurtured…and enriched?
The American Women’s College of Bay Path University is an accredited fully online bachelor’s program created just for adult women (us) offering degrees in over 25+ growing fields. It’s designed to work around busy schedules and responsibilities. It’s thrilling to think of the many opportunities available. Some of the interesting degrees that stuck out for me were: Non-profit Management (two women in my town just started Everybody Water and it’s completely taken off!) Food Industry Management (I’ve been so intrigued with this path ever since working with Revolution Foods – a woman run company by the way!) and Entrepreneurship because well, duh. 🙂
You can earn a degree within 1-3 years with 6-week accelerated classes and then go and get your dream job! Or start your own business! Or a non-profit! Or be like Kim K. and get into Criminal Justice! Or open a yoga studio! Or a psychology practice! The list of possibilities is as long as our to-do’s…It’s never too late to start something new. Just ask me!
