“Are you working out today, Kristin?” “Yes. I’ll be taking two kids under 5 to the grocery store.” I’m like a gladiator preparing for war walking into a grocery store with my children. I throw down my face mask, bang on my chest plate, and charge in. The cart is my shield. The avocado display doesn’t stand a chance. Man if I had a penny for the amount of times I’ve heard “Wow, you sure have your hands full” in a grocery store. The thing is, 10% of the time I like grocery shopping with my kids. Within this amount of time they are sitting in the cart behaving, (albeit munching on a snack that I swear I pay for at the end) discussing healthy choices without an extreme case of the “I wahannts.” It’s just that 90% of our time is spent more like this –
“Don’t touch that, please!”
“No we are not buying Lunchables, I don’t care if all of your friends eat them.”
“You may choose 1 school snack, not 7.”
“Get out from under the cart, please”
“Are you pooping?”
“Hands out of the nut dispenser!”
“No balloons today (under breath) Ok fine balloons but I’m tying them to your shirts so I know when you run off.”
I’m gladiator-ing with my little soldiers at least two times a week. I need my grocery store to be local (less than 5 minutes away), fairly priced (the people behind me in line always give a little “whoa” when they see my total…little do they know it was my second trip of the week. Also, don’t you hate that? Mind your business), and offer a great selection of natural, kid-friendly food and popular bulk brands like Charmin and Bounty with club-like prices. For me, that’s Stop & Shop. I recently partnered with them to chat about why it’s our favorite local grocery store. Check out our video
PS: With only :30 to air, I wasn’t able to mention two other things:
1) The bakery is AWESOME; I get all of my birthday cakes there. I’m super picky about that type of thing, but they have been better tasting and better looking than any speciality bakery I’ve tried.
2) The gas points! Because I’m a frequent shopper, I fill up at the gas station across the street and get .75 off every gallon. I’ve even filled up our Chevy Tahoe for under $25 before.
